First, watch skim this video to get a reference of how Ready or Not looks:
Our presentation is similar but with a few important differences.
Similarities to Ready or Not's Art
We're using Unreal Engine 5 and all its advanced features like Lumen and Nanite
We're using lots of realistic materials like concrete, metal, and wood. Gritty vibe
We're using detailed set decoration with environmental storytelling including books, statues, paintings, posters, and other items unique to the levels
We're using some stylized lighting and "screenshot bait" that isn't strictly realistic. Light and shadow are used to create mood as well as intensify gameplay
We're using realistic equipment and impactful weapons
Differences with Ready or Not's Art
Ready or Not has mostly contemporary urban environments like homes, shops, and apartments. We will be dealing with a mix of industrial and military locations.
Ready or Not has no futuristic elements. We have advanced cyberpunk elements like advanced security cameras, sleek AI labs, and other futuristic elements.
Ready or Not has a smaller tighter scale and is primarily focused on police-style CQB. We are more focused on infiltrating large fortresses which means more of an emphasis on the silhouettes of structures, sight lines, and vantage points.
Other Notes
Ready or Not is focused on mostly on crime and deals with mature subject matter including: organized crime, human trafficking, immigration, drugs, terrorism, and so on. While in general, we also want to cater to a mature audience, there are times when Ready or Not leans into shocking visuals (like piles of dead bodies) just because it wants to be as dark as possible. While we do want to achieve a certain level of gritty realism, it's important not to seem like we're trying too hard to be intense like a moody teenager wearing a trench coat and dying their hair black.
